Brain Body Balance TMS
Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation
TMS is a type of brain stimulation used to treat various neurological and cognitive conditions including memory loss, chronic pain, anxiety, depression, ADHD, OCD, tremors, tinnitus, insomnia, fibromyalgia, post-stroke recovery, and neuropathy. It is a non-invasive, painless treatment that requires no advanced preparation, anesthesia, or recovery time. Patients can drive themselves after the TMS treatment session. Treatments create magnetic energy pulses that can pass through your skull to stimulate brain cells. This stimulation is thought to improve communication between different regions of your brain, which in turn can improve function.
Research on TMS has spanned three decades and generally have shown great results especially when compared with the low success with medications. In randomized controlled trials the success rate ranges from 66-90% depending on the condition treated.
You will feel a simple tapping sensation on the side of the head during TMS. Some patients describe it as a “woodpecker” sensation on the side of the head.
Most get used to it in a matter of minutes. It becomes like ambient noise and patients don’t notice it after a while. It is rare to experience discomfort during the treatment.
If you can sit upright and hold still for at least 3 minutes (up to 20 minutes), you are able to have TMS! You will be exposed to a strong magnetic pulse during treatment, like getting an MRI. You cannot receive TMS if you have permanent metal implants in or around the head, pacemakers, or poorly controlled seizure disorder.
Our TMS clinic is fee-for-service and we do not file for insurance.
For best results, it is highly recommended to complete a course of 10 sessions over 2 weeks. This is the initiation phase of the treatment to train the brain to build a response to the TMS treatment. Follow-up maintenance sessions will then be determined on a case-by-case basis with the treating physician.
$300 for initial brain mapping and first TMS session
$200 for follow up TMS session
